if your account is inactive for 2 years then the gamertag may be released, if the microsoft account is inactive for 5 years then it will be closed and all purchases on the account would be gone.

when it comes to death, i have made sure my wife and my eldest child has access to my details and instruction on what to do with the account, as we know microsoft does not allow the transfer of accounts or change of ownership but there is ways to get around this.

they should do what google do, in the event of death you can allow all your account and data to be transferred to a nominated person.
