I am looking into monitors and people keep.saying that I need at least a hdmi 2.0 monitor to be able to run 120fps to the monitor and that hdmi 1.4 would lock it to 1080p 60hz when that what I am trying to upgrade from.

    :)

ignore him, you need a monitor that supports the 120hz mode for consoles too, needs to be hdmi 1.4 and above (1.4b for hdr). i use a msi mag artymis 324cp which is a 165hz curved screen 32", it works perfect on xbox one s and the series consoles and series works with 120hz on it with vrr too.

    Hello there!

My name is Jonny and I will be the Independent Advisor for Microsoft assisting you today!

First, thank you so much for contacting us regarding your concern. I do look forward to resolving this problem together! :)

To upgrade to 120 FPS, you'll need a monitor that supports 4K with HDMI 2.1.

For complete details and a guide, please see the link below.

NOTE: Only some games will allow this setting while others may not support it.

HDMI to Displayport converter for monitor

Hello, thank you. I have a Dell s2417dg 1440p 144/165hz monitor was looking forward to using it for my Xbox Series X once it arrives for playing a few games at 120fps but i don't think that is possible since my monitor only supports HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2.

Can i achieve 165hz with hdmi to dp converter

I run a 165hz msi monitor on my other gaming pc, i have used hdmi 1.4 and it supported 165hz ok as long as the screen is 1080p and no higher, otherwise you will need dp 1.2 or hdmi 2.0b and above. but depending on your laptop you may be able to select 165hz refresh but games will not reach 165 fps, if a low powered laptop you may be lucky hitting 60fps if that.

    what laptop model is it.
