Why won’t the audio come through my headset even when it detects the headset?

We understand that you are trying to hear audio through your headset and us unable to even device detects the headset being plugged in. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

There could be chances we might need to check the specifications of the headset we are trying to use in the device we have. To better isolate your issue, we would like to ask for few questions:

1. May we confirm if you are trying to connect your headset to an Xbox Console? Or computer? It seems like you are trying to connect it on Xbox Console as your thread's category suggest - Gaming and Xbox/Games and gaming/Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
   
2. What is your headset's make and model? Is this a gaming headset?
   
3. Did the manufacturer of the headset have mentioned Xbox Console to be its compatible device to be connected with?
   
4. Did you update the headset's driver?

Why would they hear this? you use a mic, buy a headset unless you want ugly audio coming through your headset

Sounds coming from headphones and TV at the same time is normal for the console...the other day I left my stereo on (my TV is wired through it) and couldn't work out why the audio from my headphones sounded different!

As to the audio through a headset being lower quality, that would depend really....if the audio signal for the headset is coming directly from the Xbox (wireless headset or wired), then I'd argue it's better quality than that carried to the TV via the HDMI cable. For me, my wireless headset is plugged into my controller (using an adapter) and the sound quality is miles better than the TV is capable of (is even better than my very good stereo too)
