    Why won't my Xbox play certain discs?


    I have an Xbox One X (not series) and I've used discs for awhile now, however recently, my Xbox has decided it doesn't want to run particular discs. The discs in question are: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2, Left For Dead 2, Rainbow Six Siege and Minecraft.

    When inserting these discs, I'm not given an error message or anything, my Xbox just makes a noise that sounds like it's failing to start up.

    I assumed this might be a problem with the discs themselves, however the discs are in pretty good condition and work on other consoles. Then I shifted my attention towards the disc tray, but all my other discs work, it's just THESE 4 in particular that don't.

    I've tried many different ways to try and solve this issue: hard resetting my Xbox, opening the Xbox and cleaning it, putting the console in different positions and yet no luck.

    I haven't found anything else online where someone is dealing with the same issue, does anyone have a clue what might be preventing my Xbox from playing these discs in particular?

    Hello SynfulSlasher, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your games.

    Please try going to Settings>Disc & Blu Ray and make sure that Enable BD Live is not checked. The click on Persistent Storage and clear it. Finally power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. If this does not work then the console may need to be repaired.

    As you say you've opened the console you would not be able to set up a repair via the Xbox Support site. Your best bet here would be to contact your local gaming store to see if they offer a repair service.

    In the meantime you could try holding the disc for a second after the console grabs it. This could force the console to read the disc. Please note though that this is not a recommended workaround as it may scratch your disc and doesn't solve the existing issue.

    Are you receiving an error code?

    Is the disc being recognized by the Xbox 360?

    If the issue persists,

    On Step 8 in the article: If your Xbox 360 console can read another disc of the same type, the disc may be the source of the problem.
    Get a replacement disc or troubleshooting help.

    Contact the disc manufacturer for a replacement disc or troubleshooting help.

    Sadly none of it helped. I went through all the steps already and it didn't solve anything. That game is the only one that is having issues being read.

    Sorry to hear you are running into these problems. I would definitely advice some basic troubleshooting on the console. You can always go through the

    Xbox 360 Disc Drive Solution    . Make sure that you do follow the troubleshooting and let us know if this changes anything.
