Why won't my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller stay on when connected to my PC?

Just wanted to give an update: after playing for about a half hour, then letting it sit on the charger until now it has stopped working again and I’m not sure where to continue.

It seems that the issue was related to the driver updates of Xbox Wireless adapter. Indeed, uninstalling the driver and restarting the device will really help the problem.

If we may ask, does the issue come back after charging your Xbox controller and unable to connect to your PC again?

For the meantime, try plugging in the Xbox Wireless adapter to different USB port in the CPU of your Windows PC and check if the issue still happens and maintain a good line of sight between your Xbox controller and Xbox Wireless adapter.

It appears that the issue of your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 that does not stay connected with your PC is happening when using Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. Let us check and see on what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

It is possible that your Windows needs to install updates, or the controller is being blocked my metallic objects that is causing wireless interference with the connection. Let us check it though by performing some troubleshooting steps.

If we may ask, are you using an adapter on a desktop in which USB port does not face the controller or been blocked by metallic objects? If yes, use the included USB extender to avoid wireless interference and maintain a good line of sight to your controller.

Here the troubleshooting steps that we can perform:

1. Make sure Windows is up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
  
• On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available
  

including optional updates for your device.

• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

Additionally, here are the steps to connect your Xbox controller using Xbox Wireless Adapter.

1. Turn on your PC and sign in.
   
2. Plug the Xbox Wireless Adapter into your PC. For more info, see: Set up the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
   
3. Turn on your controller by pressing the Xbox button. When you turn on the controller, the Xbox button will start flashing.
   
4. Press and hold the Pair button on the Xbox Wireless Adapter. A small light will flash for several seconds.
   
5. Press and hold the Pair button on the top of the controller (the raised button). The Xbox button on the controller will flash more rapidly—this means your controller is searching for the Xbox Wireless Adapter. When connected, the Xbox button on the controller will stay lit.
