    Why won't gamepass on pc recognize my ntfs external hard drive?


    No matter what I've tried gamepass pc won't recognize my NTFS hard drive. I've followed the steps on the forums, websites, and I've tried looking at redits, etc. No matter what I've tried, although my drive clearly shows that it is formatted correctly, gamepass pc won't let me choose it as an option for game downloads. It may be worth noting I'm using windows 11.

    One thing that you should understand is that unless your external hard drive is USB-C, it’s not fast enough to run most games. It could be that the hard drive has failed speed checks

    You are in Windows 11, know if you have the latest update to the 22H2 version, if you do not have follow the procedures below.

    Recognizes the external drive in Settings and I put that drive to default.

    The moment I click install, it doesnt allow me to change from C:

    Thanks for your reply! I did try that out, it does recognize other usb/external hard drives, so I'm thinking the problem is more with this particular hard drive that suddenly isn't being recognized anymore.

    So, to verify, the PC still see this external drives, but the Xbox no longer sees it at all.... I apologize in advance, but I have to ask, did you do a full NTFS format on a Windows10/8/7 PC of this drive?

    P.S. I regret to say, and be warned, this full format will take sometime....

    Storage management

    If an external hard drive isn't being recognized by your Xbox One, it may be because it isn't a USB 3.0 drive adapter. You can always try plugging it into a PC, formatting it NTFS, then plugging it back in to your Xbox One - which will then reformat with
    it's own game storags filesystem.
