    Why was I assigned a gamertag without my knowledge or consent?


    I started the process of migrating my Mojang account to my Microsoft email, but none of my preferred gamertags were allowed for whatever reason, so I decided to halt the process altogether. Only to find out the next day that Microsoft now calls me "FrumpyBeast1585" despite the fact that I never agreed to any gamertag change or assignment.

    Was this a bug in the system, some automated process, or what?

    (((Because I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is not due to Human error. I would never have accepted "FrumpyBeast1585" even as a joke, even as a way to move on to the next step in the process out of frustration. I would've at least waited for an randomly-generated gamertag that wasn't so... just awful, nauseating. That much, I will admit.))) (((As if this means anything.)))

    All Microsoft accounts are automatically assigned a randomly generated tag. So since you didn't complete the process of changing that, it kept the random tag.

    oh. And this Gamertag is the gamertag that Microsft automatically generated when I started the support chat, without my knowledge or consent, and I was told by support that if they try to delete it, it will also delete my 7 year old Xbox
    account and gamertag.

    It depends on what state the recording was taken from. Some states have a one party consent law when it comes to recording people without their knowledge. For instance where i live it would be perfectly legal to do the above without their consent.

    And BTW nanotechsoldier they are not actually "scraping" basic info. Most of what gets pulled for these gamer card things, is public knowledge. Infact there are some sites that log ALL gamertags from XBL and compile all public data. Even without your consent
    or knowledge. "Scraping" info is an entire different process. /just sayn
