Why so expensive?

Depending on where you purchase your games from they can indeed be very expensive, there are some online game discount shops you can check instead of your local gameshops like Gamemania which tends to try and put out the maximum price they can.

You can try alternatives like Amazon , Ebay or one that I personally use aswell GameDumper.nl which currently has The Witcher 3 Premium edition (for pre order) for roughly 55€. But you can do some research online for other websites which ship games. Just
make sure to do some thorough investigation to make sure they are safe websites to purchase from.

The Xbox One is still a pretty new console - and as such, developers are still getting their heads around the new eco-system for developing games here. This can cause an increase in costs for the developers, as they have to learn their way around the new
layout and system.

There's also the added fact that it is next-gen, so by definition, higher quality, more detail, which all adds to the overall cost.

The real reason for the disparate pricing is in regards to getting people used to the profit gouging Microsoft is doing, in 7 years time when the next Xbox comes out, games will be as much as $95 to $250 for the basic and then the 'deluxe' versions, this
doesn't include DLC either.

The strategy is to squeeze as much profit out of the 'gaming industry' as possible before they strangle the market to death.

Publishers can't offer games cheaper than they tell physical retailers they should sell them for. In the UK, 44.99 is typical and some at 49.99 or higher. It is to do with fair trading practices.

Until physical retail becomes the minority instead of majority of where Publishers get sales from we'll be stuck paying the retail price for digital.

Amazon etc sell at "offer" price to entice you to buy from them. It is why GAME appears more expensive than Amazon, because they don't start selling at the knock down price.
