Why my newly bought xbox 360 controller cable not work with my used xbox 360 controller?

Thanks for the update on the issue. If the controller is not responding, I recommend to try: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
disconnects or can’t connect.

If your controller still doesn’t work correctly, it’ll have to be replaced. You can order a replacement Xbox 360 controller from the
Device Support.

What USB cable did you buy? If you bought the Xbox 360 Play & Charge controller cable, be aware that that cable does NOT transmit controller commands. It only provides power to the controller.

In order to use the controller with the Xbox 360, you will have to press the "Bind" button on the console (the small button next to the USB cover flap or the Memory Unit slots). The console will then have a "rotating" ring of light around it's power button.

Then press the Bind button on the controller (the small button between the LB and RB buttons with the "o)))" symbol). The controller will then also rotate it's ring of light.

When console and controller found each other, the rotating light stops, and the controller should show one segment lit on it's ring of light.

Does the store you purchased from have buyer protection? You may want to return the controller for a new one if it works with the return policy.

The issue could be related to the the console which would mean you would either have to replace it or have it repaired. It would be cheaper to replace it. If it's the controller itself then you may have to find another used one that works.
