Why isn’t my headset mic working?

There could be a few reasons why your headset mic is not working on your Xbox Series X. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:



1. Make sure your headset is properly plugged in to the controller. Check that the 3.5mm jack is fully inserted into the controller's audio port.



2. Check the mute button on your headset. Make sure it is not turned on or activated.



3. Check the audio settings on your Xbox Series X. Go to Settings > General > Volume & audio output. Make sure the "Headset mic" option is turned on.



4. Try connecting your headset into a different controller. It's possible that the audio port on your controller is not working properly.



5. Try using a different headset. It's possible that there is an issue with your Astro A10 headset.

6. Try connecting your Astro A10 headset on another device and see if you can unmute your microphone or use it.



7. Try testing your headset on party: To test the headset, start a party (requires internet connectivity) to test the audio:

1. Sign in on your console.
   
2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
   
3. Under Parties & chats, select Start a party. (You don't need to invite anyone for this test.)
   
4. Make sure your mic is not muted in party chat.
   
   Note You can use the Y button on your controller to toggle mute on or off.
   
5. Make sure your headset is not muted and that the volume is turned up.
   
6. Speak into the microphone. If your headset is working, you’ll see the ring around your gamer pic light up.

Make sure the headset is compatable with the Xbox. Make sure your console settings aren’t wonky, they could be prohibiting the mic from working. Is it just the mic that isn’t working or the headset all together?

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Rig 400 headset. I understand that you've tried some troubleshooting steps but none of them worked. Do you have other earphones or headsets that work on your console including the microphone?

Have you tried resetting the audio settings? Kindly follow these steps:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Audio Testing & Details > Reset audio settings

Once done, please ensure that your headset chat slider is configured properly. To do this, press the Xbox button on the controller to open the menu. Select the Audio icon to modify the settings. On the next page, you can find three options: Headset volume, Headset chat mixer, and Mic monitoring. Make sure to set the Headset chat mixer to 40-60%.

Hi Easton, may I know if the microphone was working before with the affected apps?

Or is this the first time that you try to use them?

For now please try each possible solution below:

1. Open task manager and go to the startup tab, once there click "disable" on each app listed there

After that Restart the PC and see if the problem is solved

2. Do a clean boot in your Windows PC. For that please follow this article
