Why isn't my external hard drive working?

Its a Seagate Back up Plus and I did run the tests and Fix all, Long Generic, Smart test failed, Short generic, and Short drive test passed. I also looked up my SN and MN to see if It is under warranty and it is in fact for another year, so I plan to get
another one from them for now. Also when I try to play games with out the HDD, it runs fine. The reason I got the HDD is because my Console is a only 500GBs.

mm, Regrettably, Xbox can't help you with external products.. :/ If you still have a warranty on the drive, have you contacted Seagate Support?

If nobody there can help, the last resort, would be to take it to a IT specialist to check that there is current being maintained through the caddy or drive, or to simply buy a new drive. Not much else that we can advise.

you said, you ran Diagnostics, was that Windows diagnostics or a tool specifically from the external hard drive brand itself?

Also be sure to try and see if there is a different behavior when the game is installed on the Xbox One's hard drive, to determine if it's console related or not. (Make sure the external hdd is disconnected at the time when you try and start the game)
