    Why isn’t my external hard drive working no more?


    So I’ve had this external hard drive for my Xbox for about a year or two now and after turning it on and off it doesn’t want to detect anymore. I’ve tried plugging it into other things like computers and even my friends Xbox and it still works just fine. What can I do to fix this?

    I am very sorry you are experiencing this issue.

    Can you try clearing your system cache by performing a power cycle by following the steps below?

    To do this:

    For Xbox One:

    - Go to the Home screen.

    - Press the Menu button on the controller.

    - Select Settings.

    - Go to Sleep Mode & Start-Up

    - Select Shut Down.

    For Series X|S:

    - Open Settings on Xbox.

    - Select the General tab.

    - Click on Power Options.

    - Under the “Options” section, click the “Shutdown now” option.

    - Click the “Shut down” button.

    Once done and once the console is off, remove the external hard drive.

    Once done, power up the console and see if the issue continues after plugging it back in.

    That is really unfortuniate. I myself also have an external hard drive and it works just fine. FYI I am in the Beta Update Ring on Xbox, so maybe it's already fixed in the next update! My External Hard Drive is from Xbox and that could also mean why it
    is working.

    Some games out there require the xbox hard drive in order to work properly. Why not just buy the hard drive for it instead of something external.
