    Why is there a number I don't recognise on my child's account?


    Hello,

    I have tried to log into my child's Microsoft Account to change his security information after noticing I couldn't log in.

    Upon logging in, it is requesting a code to a phone number I don't recognise. It is not us as parents nor anyone we know. I am concerned he has been hacked and this has been added.

    I have managed to recover the account to change the number but it said it will take 30 days. In the meantime, I want mine or my child's number added so we can secure the account using the authenticator app.

    Can someone advise what to do?

    Unfortunately, to change your security information or verification options, you would need to pass the verification code check, which in this case would not be possible until you wait the 30 days.

    You would have to wait, I am sorry.

    You can complete this once the 30 days have ended and the information has been changed.

    You can change it on a Microsoft account but unfortunately on an Xbox account the date of birth will still be recognised as the original birthdate and therefore a child account.

    unfortunately its a common issue by all accounts. I have a uk based account. My child has a US based account. Hence it wont recognise me when i try to confirm his age.... Its a balls up
