why is the media player no longer reading my usb device????????????

Idk if your update to the oneguide *** everything up for my usb devices..now i cant read or watch whats on my hard drive...you microsoft people better fix this ***..im not happy with your services..im seriously considering a ps4

Maybe I'm reading something wrong at your link, but I see this...

"What are the different ways to play audio, photo and video content on Media Player?"

ANSWER: "You can play media from a USB 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 removable drive."

So no mention of streaming directly from your PC.

"Is there third-party software that I can use to stream media content from my PC to Media Player?"

ANSWER: "The Xbox One team tests extensively to ensure that Xbox will work well with Windows Media Player software. If you decide to use third-party software, contact that software’s manufacturer for support."

Why would you need a third party to stream content if Media Player had that ability? Looks to me like X1 can only play content via USB or other removable device unless a non supported third party work around is used to stream content to Media Player. Big
step back from the 360. Don't know why they just didn't make it work with "Media Center" like on the 360.

 

xbox one media player cant detect my USB drive..?

is there something I missed with the media player? do I need a certain type of USB drive? do I need to do something to my USB drive for it to show up on my media player?

Hello. I'm having the same issue. It's not picking up the hard drive that is not formatted for xbox. I have two external drives 1 for games. And a normal for music and movies. Games is found with out an issue. The other drive won't be seen.
I can take the same drive to my laptop. It works fine. Went through the trouble shooting guide. No luck. Still can't use media player. Since the update

Is this a USB 2.0 or 3.0 Device? Have you tried the guide suggested by Mister Maka yet? You'll also want to try plugging the device into a PC to see if it's able to be read there.

 

it is a usb 3.0 and yes i tried the guide above. also yes on the drive working with my laptop. i have 2 xbox one's and media player is broken on both since update

 

I have this same problem, although its not with my external usb hard disk but with my WDMYCLOUD. I used to be able to stream all my videos, view my pictures from here but I don't see it in the Media player anymore.

Initially i thought it has something to do with my network at home, but that was not the case. I am able to connect to the WDMYCLOUD from my smart tv that has my xbox one connected.

Its definitely something to do with the Xbox one or the update that was pushed last. I spent an hour with tech support and they could not even escalate the issue.

my system registers the drive, but no media files are detected, this same drive works just fine on my 360, pc, etc. I loaded copies of the same music files to a 4gb stick, reads the drive, cant for whatever reason detect any media files. both sticks I've
verified on every single piece of hardware I can get my hands on, verified they work, the files are there.
