Why is Store Host Experience making my xbox one black screen after I try and update it?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the console. Please try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. Then unplug it for 30 seconds. Then hold the Sync button (left side near the USB port on the original Xbox One and just below the power button on the S and X consoles) and the Eject button for the console then press the power button and hold until you hear a second start up noise. If you are using the Xbox One All Digital console then you only need to hold the Sync button and then press the power button to reset. You should now see a new screen. Scroll over to Restart/Reset and reset the console to factory settings. It's hard to say whether this is an Xbox One console or Samsung HDTV issue. I have seen other reports in the forums about similar short black screen issues and even experience it myself intermittently with my Day One Xbox One and Samsung KS8000.

IIRC, one forum poster theorized it may be related to a failed notification (ie a pop up should appear but instead the whole screen goes black temporarily) or is somehow related to when an update for a game or app becomes available. I'll try to keep an eye
on game updates in future to see if there is a correlation between black screens and available updates.

After following your steps, I went to the Microsoft Store app and attempted to download a game. The game isn't showing in the queue, but the "Store Experience Host" and "Microsoft Xbox Purchase Host" is in the queue. I have noticed that every time I have done a form of resetting since the issues started, those two apps(?) need updated but only sometimes successfully update.

So I've updated my Xbox.. the latest 4.4g afterwords, my Xbox completely factory restarted itself, causing me to "set it up" again. Luckily I was able to add my account but lost my little brothers. After heard that this update is causing people Xbox to experience a "black screen of death" should I be afraid to turn off my Xbox? Or am I relatively safe, I'm on Xbox one S

Are you trying this from a computer or console, try different browsers and make sure you account security is up to date.
