    Why is Smart App Control blocking GamePass games like Borderlands 3 and Avowed?


    Smart App Control has been actively blocking new games on GamePass like Borderlands 3 and Avowed, as well as known trusted programs like PearsonVUE which is for taking a CompTIA exam at home. I'd turn SAC off, but Windows says turning it off will permanently disable it - I don't want that. Many other GamePass games do work. It's not everything on GamePass, it just appears to be newer releases for some reason.

    When attempting to load Borderlands 3, I get Error code: (0x800711c7) and a box in the corner saying:
    Part of this app has been blocked

    Some features of GameLaunchHelper may not work because we can't confirm who published OakGame-GDK-Shipping.exe that the app tried to load.

    I have a number of other Windows 11 Pro security features enabled, but Smart App Control is the one that gives a pop-up about blocking these apps.

    I currently have these security features enabled: Real-time protection, Dev Drive protection, Tamper protection, Core isolation, Secure boot, Reputation-based protection, UAC turned up to max, BitLocker, and Windows Defender/Firewall of course.

    I've used O&O Shutup10 to optimize Windows a bit, not sure if it's somehow connected to this.

    I've tried changing permissions, reducing UAC, running the apps as Admin or another user, and repairing the installs. Nothing seems to bypass Smart App Control.

    Does it work through the smart glass app? If anything is blocking The IR line of sight I've found that control can be hit or miss, but for some reason it always seems to work when I use the smart glass app.

    Hi Rhys. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

    If the program is blocked by Smart App Control, the only way to open it would be by disabling this feature temporarily.

    Open Settings and select Privacy & security > Windows Security.

    Select App & browser control > Smart App Control settings. Turn Smart App Control off.

    Then you can run the uninstaller and re-enable Smart App Control after.

    Gearbox Announces Battleborn!

    Total disapointement.

    Gearbox first "next gen" game is another shooter (why no Borderlands 3),with coop (why no Borderlands 3),different classes (why no Borderlands 3) with cartoon style visuals (why no Borderlands 3).

    So Gearbox did want to create a new IP,bring back Borderlands later on,seems they missed the opportunity to make something really different....

    I will wait for Borderlands 3.

    As explained above, keyboard and mouse unfortunately isn’t compatible with Cloud gaming at the moment. There are various controllers that are supported, though.
