    Why is Romania still not an official Xbox console region in 2026?


    I'm a Romanian Xbox player and I honestly don't understand why Romania still has no official Xbox console support in 2026.

    We have PC Game Pass, but no official Xbox console region. Romanian players still have to rely on workarounds and foreign regions to fully use Xbox services.

    What makes this even harder to understand is that PlayStation and Nintendo both offer full official support in Romania. So this doesn't seem to be a legal or market issue.

    Romania is an EU country with a growing gaming community, and many of us have been buying Xbox consoles and games for years. I've personally owned every Xbox generation.

    If Microsoft already supports PC Game Pass in Romania, why not Xbox consoles as well?

    Is there any official reason for this, or any plan to change it in the future?

    Sorry to hear it. I think the issue lies with the country. Romania is not an officially Live supported region. As such the card you purchased would be for a different region than you physically live in. I'm not entirely sure why or how a store in Romania
    would have Live cards for sale but you would need to find out which region the code is for as Gold memberships are region locked

    as Xbox consoles are not sold officially in Romania, cloud gaming would not come to Romania at this time.

    They are aquired through official channels (I assume from other countries), not from black markets or not Microsoft directly, as they are not officially selling Xbox products in Romania.

    Also, Microsoft is officially present in Romania with all their other products.

    Why do you think Play Station has more success in this country?

    This is because Romania is not an officially supported Xbox LIVE country and you are essentially finding a way around that by registering an account in a country that does have LIVE.

    You, yourself created the issue of not being able to download content. Until Romania is listed on that officially supported Xbox LIVE country list then you will run into issues with region locked content when purchasing and downloading content. There's no way
    around that.

    On one account, i actually have Romania account region with me being in Romania (although neither console has this locale on their region settings).

    This one was changed a month ago from UK account region to Romania region because i thought i had the problem you're talking about for 1 and 3.
