Why is my Xbox One controller joystick locking in place when pushed all the way to one side?

Took apart my controller to replace my bumpers. Now putting it back together and not one but both of my joysticks are now doing this thing where they lock in place if you push them all the way to one side. There was absolutely no problem with my joysticks before I took it apart, so I know they're not broken. There is no dirt or debris in them. They are not "sticking", there is some physical mechanism that is soft-locking them in place when pushed all the way to one side. It only happens when pushed all the way to one side. I have no idea how I activated it and I have no idea how to deactivate it.

Has anyone encountered this or known how to fix this? I haven't been able to find anything about this particular issue online.

    Thanks

    Adaptive joystick

I have tried 2 different adaptive controllers and two different adaptive joysticks. I put the adaptive joystick into hard foam (that I cut a notch into, then put the adaptive controller in the slit-where the density of the foam made the sides push in from
left and right to steady the adaptive controller & hold in place) to put in bottom, so one side of tape would stick to wedge and other to controller, so it's locked into place. I use my toe on the adaptive joystick and hand on Elite controller w/LT and LB
triggers. Biggest, most Massive messed up issue is PDP (manufacturer of adaptive joystick) or Xbox's
adaptive controller does not support the thumb stick click
    function
...which is WORTHLESS. If I use my right toe, my left foot is bricked from tone too, which leaves my right hemisphere to do al functions. I just need the joystick to click to sprint but apparently MS did not consult w/people
that have the need for this. The only people I see this helping are kids w/parent via copilot. They just need to fix or add a clickable adaptive thumb stick to have sprint....but I'm pretty sure they won't invest the small capital to fix this glaringly outrageous
    oversight.

I didn't see in my adaptive configuration screen an option to allow the left usb of the adaptive controller to act as shift button when I went into the app on my xbox. I play FPS shooters, so shift key will not allow me to play the game at all. Just pass
on this sensible feature that should've come with the controller/joystick to whomever designed this thing so atrociously.

Happens to me all the time. The jack in the controllers really suck. Unplug it, then push it in slowly until you hear a crackle in the headset, then push it in all the way even slower. Takes a few tries. Sometimes you only get sound on one side.

    Xbox one controller deadlines/vibration

Okay, I tested it. If I barely move the joystick, it won't do anything, but it's such a miniscule dead-zone, it's not really worth mentioning; no game would ever need to be that sensitive. The only reason it's there in the 1st place is because the bottom
plastic edge of the joysticks have to move down (as you push the joystick up, down, left, or right) to touch the sensor inside of the controller to activate the signal so that it knows you're moving the joystick - that's all; that would be true for ANY controller.
