why is my xbox app size only 0 bytes?

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your Xbox App.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please check Windows updates by making sure that your system is fully updated, as missing updates can cause app issues.

And then run WSReset. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type wsreset.exe, then press Enter. This resets the Microsoft Store cache.

Next is to reinstall the Xbox App via PowerShell. Open PowerShell as an administrator and run:

    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *Xbox* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *GamingServices* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Start-Service gamingservices

Then reinstall the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store.

Then check storage permissions. Please go to Settings > Apps > Xbox App > Advanced Options and make sure that it has the necessary permissions.

After that is to run the Gaming Services repair tool. Kindly launch the Xbox app, click on your profile picture, then Support, then Gaming Services Repair Tool, and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Why does XBOX App on PC require 4k cluster size?

    Hello SirionPavanelli,

Yes, the details you have shared is correct.

    As stated on support article:

By default, the maximum cluster size for NTFS under Windows NT 4.0 and later versions of Windows is 4 kilobytes (KB). This is because NTFS file compression is not possible on drives that have a larger cluster size. The format command won't use clusters larger than 4 KB unless the user specifically overrides the default settings. You can do this by using the /A: switch together with the Format command or by specifying a larger cluster size in the Format dialog box in Windows Explorer.

Link: Default cluster size for NTFS, FAT, and exFAT - Microsoft Support

    Regards,
    Kathy A.
This is misinformation. I assume you posted it because of highlight/bold text. BUT as support article shows, DEFAULT cluster size is above 4096 on 16TB+

I cant comprehend why MS is so incompetent and not able to fix this lame XBOX shortcoming/bug in such long time. I reported it way back and app is still broken and cant install game on anything not 4k...not a single other APP i used ever has such limitation...

But thumbs up, that at some point at least that error message was added there saying drive has too big cluster size, as before disks just wasnt visible for selection.

    Split from this thread.
    Data sheet from manufacturer state

512e Sector Size (Bytes per Second)512

4Kn Sector Size (Bytes per Second)4096

My HDD is formatted as NTFS and I have tried both Default and manually set to allocation size (when formatting it) to 4096.

Despite that, Xbox app (GamePass PC) still show the following error.

E: - This drive isn't formatted as NTFS. The NTFS drive requires a maximum sector size of 4k.

Unless this does NOT have anything to do with the Allocation Size when formatting I’m not sure how to fix it natively, without “multiple” partitions

@SirionPavanelli If your drive is 16TB+ you cannot "fix" this IF you want to keep just one partition, because MS incompetency...

btw what you actually need to check is (because even if you select 4096 in format dialog, 8096 is used by system) "Bytes Per Cluster" from admin prompt "fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo e:"

    C:\>fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo e:

    NTFS Version : 3.1

    LFS Version : 2.0

    Total Sectors : 39,063,613,439 (18.2 TB)

    Total Clusters : 2,441,475,839 (18.2 TB)

    Free Clusters : 2,441,425,802 (18.2 TB)

    Total Reserved Clusters : 512 ( 4.0 MB)

    Reserved For Storage Reserve : 0 ( 0.0 KB)

    Bytes Per Sector : 512

Bytes Per Physical Sector : 4096

Bytes Per Cluster : 8192 <<< this is 8k so xbox will fart

Bytes Per FileRecord Segment : 1024

    I feel your frustration :(

A lot of problems with the xbox one

    From
    scripthacks.wordpress.com/.../calculate-usable-hard-drive-size

When a 300GB hard drive is sold the manufacturer is stating that the hard drive has a capacity which meets the following equation:

    300GB = 300,000,000,000 bytes

With a 300GB hard drive the manufacturer would like you to think the above equation is true. It in fact is not. The reason why this value is false is because 1,000 bytes should be represented as 1,024 bytes. So in order to find the true size of a 300GB
hard drive you must divide by 1024 three times to calculate its true size in Gigabytes.

    300,000,000,000 bytes ÷ 1024 = 292,968,750 Kilobytes

    292,968,750 kilobytes ÷ 1024 = 286,102.3 Megabytes

    286,102.3 Megbytes ÷ 1024 = 279.3968 Gigabytes

The corrected size of an advertised 300GB drive is actually 279GB and change.

If hard drive manufacturers gave you the advertised capacity of 300GB the drive would have to be 322,122,547,200 Bytes in size. This can be calculated by multiplying 300GB x 1024 three times to find the required bytes.
Personally I'm not a great fan of SSDs at the moment. I have my OS on a 120gb OCZ Vertex Plus and to be honest once started up I'm struggling to see the performance benefit compared to when I had the OS on a Seagate 1tb SSHD.

For me the performance benefits of SSDs do not compensate the higher price for less storage space.
