Why is my Controller only responding off and on. (Xbox X)

Please, reset your controller pairing.

To unpair it, press and hold the pair button on top of the controller for a few seconds until it vibrates twice.

Then, pair it again.

Turn on your controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button.

Press and release the Pair button on the Xbox.

Within 20 seconds, press and hold the controller’s Pair button a circular button on top of the controller as you hold it in your hands) until the controller's Xbox button flashes a few times.

That means it's searching for a console.

The Xbox button stays lit once it's connected.

figured it out. Xbox series X wont turn off your controller or respond to the controller once its on a off state if your console is in ENERGY SAVER mode. In order to be able to turn your xbox on with the controller you must be in STANDBY mode. Thats a stupid move by Microsoft to force you to keep wasting power in order to turn on you console with the controller.

I've had a similar problem. I have the Xbox X and the Elite controller. A couple of times, tonight is one, I turn on the console and it only responds to pressing the Home button and a couple of navigation commands. Hold down the home button to bring up the
power off console, controller, or report a problem menu, when one is highlighted it just blinks when pressing the A button. Only have had the X for a couple of weeks. Hasn't happened yet while I am doing something on the console. only after it is powered up.

Hello, thank you for responding. And to awnser your questons. I am using an xbox one x, i do not have any external untits plugged into my xbox, this is with only digital games and no it wasnt a factory reset it was a regular reset from holding down the xbox button on my controller

the only thing I have noticed on my console (Xbox One X) when it's turned fully off (Energy safe mode) and disconnected from power after you reconnect it to power it takes about 10 seconds before you can power on the console via the controller, if trying
to do that to soon, the controller will try to power on, but the console will not respond. In such case using the power button on the console will fix the issue and power the console on.

Other then that, like stated by others now 'warm up' is required
