Why is my controller burned up?

I had bought 2 perfectly working controllers and after a small period of time both start increasing temperature on a specific place (down towards the d pad ) and one won't turn on now and 2nd is like when the power of battery is low and cannot start. I had them plugged on a USB/ type b cable on a power bank and then they started to overheat and smell like burning plastic. I want to know why is this happening/ how to fix it / and how to avoid burning another one. (Sorry for any typos or if anything doesn't make sense English is not my first language)

There has been just about less 1 hour of playing while the burning was happening simultaneously.

your power bank is outputting way to much power for the controllers to handle, some power banks are dodgy and is not recommended to play using a power bank connected. use batteries or rechargeable batteries or the official plug n play charge kit.

as you have used a third party power source that is not recommended then your warranty is null and void.

Hello Konstantinos, I see in your description that you connected the controls by cable to a power bank, this is not recommended by Microsoft for some reasons, the first is that you will never be sure of the load that the power bank is passing to the control, the same thing if applies to connect to mobile phone chargers.

To connect your cable controller, you always have to connect to the console, or if you play on the PC, connect to the PC's USB.

The ideal is also to use rechargeable batteries, they are a little more expensive than the traditional ones but they work well in the controller, but the controller cannot recharge them, they usually come with a separate charger.

I appreciate the help, but it said my controller's warranty ended last month so I can't get it replaced, the controller ended up burning my thumb as to me finding out where the buzzing was coming from, the controller had overheated and started burning me and now my thumb smells like burning skin, but yeah, I cannot get it replaced, so I will just have to buy a new one, thank you again for your help

This is one of the reasons why I'm holding off on getting the elite controller. MS has burned us before. I refuse to drop $150 on an "elite" controller than is in some cases worse than the basic $60 version.
