Why is Minecraft Java Edition Asking me to change usernames and how do i keep my old Username?

Also, why is this still my username? I wanted to change it to VoidGaming3125! Or VoidGame3125? I keep confusing my Java edition username and my Xbox username.

To change your Minecraft username, you'll need to sign in at https://www.minecraft.net/profile then click on "My games" > Minecraft Java Edition > Profile Name. This Minecraft support page explains in good detail how to change your in-game username, as well as the requirements for it:

I understand that you want to keep your old Minecraft username after the migration. According to Mojang, your username should not change after the migration

However, if you need to change your username after the migration, you can follow these steps

Log in to minecraft.net.

Click on the My Games section.

Click where it says Minecraft: Java Edition, here you will be presented with two options to change the skin or change the name.

Click Profile Name.

You can now change your Java edition profile name

As per your description, after changing the username and sign in the account, it seems that you do not own the game. Have you tried to sign in the account with old username to check if you can play with Minecraft just fine? That is to check if changing username with the version you have purchased is permitted. If you can sign in the old account with the old username and able to play the game, it would mean that changing the username of the version of Minecraft you have is not applicable. When I logged into windows 10 using my Microsoft account it instantly used my Xbox username. It there any way I can make my Minecraft account different than my Xbox username? This would be extremely helpful, especially because my Minecraft username
is 13 letters, and Xbox usernames can only be 12 letters!
