  1. Why I Will Never Buy Another Xbox, or Likely Even a Microsoft Product Again

    Dear Xbox/Microsoft,

Your product is garbage and I will never again be buying an Xbox console, Xbox game, and anything associated with Xbox.

For a work assignment, I am currently living in a hotel for the next 7 weeks in an area with poor internet service and connectivity. I figured I'd bring my Xbox with me so that I could catch up on some games because I had generally been neglecting the console
in favor of my computer back home. My first weekend here, I decided to buy Resident Evil 7 (hard copy disc) and was super excited to begin playing it. As I sat down to play it, I discovered that you can't just insert a disc and play a game anymore. Simply
ridiculous. I have to install the disc before I can even play? How, how is it that as technology progresses, my ability to easily access a game has gone down? I now have to wait for a disc to install on a console, whereas a few years ago the disc would just
load up and play. Why are you progressing backwards?

Ok, so I'll play your little game. I wait patiently for the disc to install. Around 30% completion, my Xbox says I can begin playing the game. However, once I try that option, I get an error message. I tried again, and again, and again; same error message.
Alright, guess I'll wait for 100% completion; no logical reason the game from a hard copy disc shouldn't work then right?? Wrong. It still gives me the same error message after waiting about a half hour for the game to fully install.

Next option, start doing some googling to try and troubleshoot. What I discover is that the game likely needs an update. Quick side note: my hotel has crap internet unless you wanna pay an extra $50 a month for faster WiFi. I don't want to pay for that so
I'm currently not connected to Xbox Live. I purely just want to play the game I just bought, single-player, offline, using the disc I had just bought. Turns out though, that even if I just want to play the campaign that comes standard with the game, on the
disc, I still have to connect to the internet and download an update. Again, an update for a game I just bought on a disc. THIS IS ABSURD. What kind of crap deal are you trying to push on me where I HAVE to be connected to the internet and download an update
just to play a single player game? BY THE WAY THE UPDATE IS 1.9 GIGABYTES. I connected to the crappy free hotel WiFi and guess what? After 20 minutes I'm at 5.7% completion for downloading the update. (100/5.7) x 20min = 350min = 5.84 hrs. To play a game
I bought hard copy. Thanks Microsoft.

This is madness, absolute madness. As a kid, it took me 10 minutes to load a website but I could plug any disc or game into a console and instantly be able to play it. Now, a website loads in .5 seconds but I have to wait 20 minutes to install a game plus
however long it takes to download an update just to play a single player game. ****. That what you and your products are. I'm done, and won't be coming back. Thank you for the joy you brought me as a child but somehow you lost your way. PC all day.

P.S. I know I have to use Windows to play on a PC, and believe me, I'm not happy about it, but I will never buy another Microsoft product again.

    :)

About the only console that you dont have to install the game including disc bought games nowadays is the Switch.

Most games nowadays are at least 50 GBs and even with a blue ray disc the most that can fit on it is 27 GB so you would still need to download and install the game to the console

Updates for games come from the publisher of the game not handled by Microsoft so your complaining to the wrong people about updates for your games.

  5. Greetings,

We definitely understand the frustration with this situation, but as steeledwand7664
mentioned the more the Graphics quality and content of games increases the larger the files for those games become.

With simpler graphic qualities and gameplay feature comes faster load times and less need for disc space. With a game like Resident Evil 7, which currently makes use of some of the newest technology and graphics, a lot of disc space is required.

This would of course be up to the developer of the content to make this choice for their game and require updates for the game to function on the console.

The console is designed to allow developers to utilize the latest tech for their games and just like on a PC you would need to meet the disc space requirements the publisher has decided on for their game.

We know this won't fix the current situation with the Hotel wifi but we do hope it helps make sense of the situation.

Always happy to help troubleshoot if you need assistance with anything else and we do hope that you are able to enjoy the content you purchased once it finishing installing.
