Why does Xbox Series S crash when listening to background music via Windows Media Player?

Today I started playing music on my xbox in the background via Windows media player app on xbox via DLNA connection.

It worked fine for about 20 minutes, then it began opening up Windows media player whilst playing my game.

Okay closed the app, disconnected my phone and tried again.

Worked for about 10 minutes then my entire console freezes.

I pressed the power button several times and it made noise bit nothing changed so I had to result in pulling the plug.

I used to play music in the background whilst playing games on my original crystal clear og xbox, so what's the problem 20 years later?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is very nostalgic for me.

Hello Declangilmour, it's hard to know exactly why this is happening, if you haven't tried any procedure in the console, try following the steps below.

The first is a clear cache

1. Go to the Xbox press and hold the XBOX power button on the console for 10 seconds until it turns off

2. Wait 10 seconds until it turns off

3. Wait 1 minute with it off

4. Turn it back on

Xbox One reset keeping Games:

Press the Xbox button to open the panel.

Select system > Settings > System > Console Information

Select Reset console.

Restore and maintain my games and apps.

Rest assured, you won't miss games or saves

Note: You need to know the email and passwords of your accounts when performing this reset.

I can expand on 4GEE's problem because it is happening to me as well. The issue is that the Xbox Music subscription files (wma) are not playable with any the following media playback applications:

* Windows Media Center on Windows 8

* Windows Media Center on Xbox 360

* Windows Media Player on Windows 8

* System Music Player on Xbox 360

Go ahead, try it for yourself. Interestingly, any subscription music downloaded through the legacy Zune software (also wma) is still compatible with all of the above playback applications. I confirmed the above findings just earlier today with my Windows
8 computer and Xbox 360 S. The limitations of Xbox Music files has interrupted my ability to play a custom soundtrack during Xbox 360 gameplay as well as play background music during a Media Center slideshow. Downloading the Optional Media Update for Xbox
360 does not solve this issue. Please help!

I beleive that any music you bought on Zune is transfered over to Xbox Music. If you go to Xbox Music via Xbox.com you should be able to find it. This was the case for me.

Custom, playlists and songs you have that you didn't buy on Zune and just listen to via Zune won't be avalible, however. You'll have to listen to them via other programmes, such as Windows Media Player or iTunes. Xbox Music is only about streaming the latest
tunes or songs you bought.

Personally, I think Xbox Music is a dissapointment. It's one step behind Zune since with that you could play any music on your PC.

Viral - That is incorrect. Since day ONE, the Xbox 360 had the ability to connect with Windows Media Center, as well as the ability to stream photos or music from your PC (and music 'in the background').

If the 360 couldn't do that stuff from day ONE, then why does my launch day 360 - with the special launch day remote control, have a Windows Media Center button ON THE REMOTE!?

I take back what I said. Windows Media Center doesn't allow you to listen to music outside of keeping Windows Media Center open. I just want my music, man. Why's this such a hassle?
