Why does the Xbox (beta) app use GPU?

As the title says, why is the app using my gpu for seemingly no reason? The only thing it's doing currently is being open, and having a paused download. I'm curious because I'm not sure I've seen any other game store using it for any reason. Also, is there
any way to disable whatever in the app is using the gpu (without breaking the app altogether), as it does cause slowdown with games. The only thing I can think of as to why it's being used would be the videos for the games on the app, but I don't have any
of them playing.

I can't understand why its doing that on your system, perhaps its a driver issue? I know it's not happening on my PC. My Xbox App only shows GPU usage if I put my cursor over a game as it displays a video. I have An Nvidia RTX 2080 GPU, although I'm sure
it didn't happen on my GTX 1070 either. Perhaps its a GTX 9XX issue?

What I can tell you is that you don't actually need to run the App to launch any games. I've just tested it. Unlike systems such as Steam, Origin or Epic games, The Xbox Beta App is linked directly into the Windows Store, so unless you're
downloading games, you can close the app down. All your games should still work.

You know you do not need the beta app open when playing games, you can close it if you want, and your games will continue to download and install in the background.

Hi there,

one thing you can check is, to see if there is difference when the app is maximized (Full screen) or is it a Window.

I've seen differences with GPU uses when for example a Remote Desktop is maximized or not, when maximized a RDP can use quite some GPU.

You can also try and disable the Game Bar via the Windows settings to see if that makes any difference too.

I was just coming back to say that I found that out a moment ago, and I'm glad that is the case lol. It doesn't explain why the app requires the GPU of course, but at least it isn't in use when the app's in the background!

I attempted both suggestions, neither ended up causing a major change. The situation stayed the same whether the app was windowed or maximized, and disabling the Game Bar caused GPU usage to spike above 40% for a minute or so, afterwards it dropped down
to the usual 17%-22% range it seems to sit at usually.

Unsure if system specs will come in handy but I'm using an Intel i5-2500 3.3 GHz CPU, Nvidia GTX 960 GPU, and 8 gigs of RAM.
