Why does the Xbox app redownload the whole game when doing an update?

Are you a part of the Xbox Insider Program? This might be what is causing the abnormal download/game update.

Game updates can sometimes be the size of the games initial download. Normally when something like this happens it throws the new update onto the download size and redownloads the whole game, most likely because the update (in this case the recent GTA
V one) was so significant in adding new assets to the game that everything in the game was updated hence why its basically redownloading the game. You won't lose another 50 GB of storage by updating it like that, it should download over itself. If you do lose
storage for some reason, actually uninstall the effected game and reinstall it. Then go make sure your background updates and downloads is turned on in your console settings, that way you won't have to manually mess with it.

I have an issue, where support had me delete the app, and redownload. Now when I start the game, it does the small title update, and proceeds to the main menu. When I wave my hand for Kinect, it says there is another title update, but when i say accept,
it asks me if I want to download the app again, instead of doing the update. So now I can't start the game at all, whereas at least before I could start everything but nat geo wild.

Hey, I had problem like this and got it fixed by just uninstalling FH5 and then installing it again (heres the weird catch) After I uninstalled it and pressed download apparently FH5 was still installed(i didnt have to redownload the whole game) the app didnt uninstall FH5 (no idea why), making it work after this weird fiasco.

Seriously though they need to get this sorted out, had this problem a while ago and its the second time appearing, usually happens when I have to update the Xbox App from microsoft store. i think the xbox app is conflicting with the microsoft store in whose installing what update to which game.

You'll just have to download the update, not redownload the whole game.
