Why does the xbox app on pc tell me after it installs 136gigs fh5 that I have to purchase...

Based on the description, you are having issue installing the game through the Xbox app after you have purchased it. Let us check and see on what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

We are going to ask few questions to help us isolate the issue further.

1. Did you buy the game through Microsoft Store or through the Xbox.com site?

2. Is this the first time you have installed the game through Xbox app after purchased?

3. Are you getting error code while on the process of installing the game?

4. Are you sign in using same both on Xbox app and Microsoft Store?

5. What is the version of Windows you are using? To check, press Windows key + R and in run dialog box type winver then hit enter.

It is possible that the license was not validated with your Microsoft account. This would happen if the account signed through Microsoft store is different with the account signed in through Xbox app. We can check it though.

For the meantime, follow the steps below to help resolve the problem.

1. Make sure Windows is up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
  
• On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available
  

including optional updates for your device.

• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

2. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
  
• Select Library.
  
• Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
  

3. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

> To make sure your permissions for the game can be validated, be sure to sign in to both the Store and the Xbox app using the same account that was used to purchase the game.

4. Uninstall and reinstall Gaming Services

• Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  
• In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  
• Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  
• Restart your device and try to install the game again.
  

5. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game

> If you're having trouble getting a game to play, uninstalling and then reinstalling the game might help. Occasionally, game files may get corrupted or altered, especially if you've had a malware problem or are running a game modification on your device.

> Some games can even repair the original files without you having to remove the game completely. However, if you installed the game from the Microsoft Store, you'll only be able to completely uninstall and reinstall the game.

Hey, I had problem like this and got it fixed by just uninstalling FH5 and then installing it again (heres the weird catch) After I uninstalled it and pressed download apparently FH5 was still installed(i didnt have to redownload the whole game) the app didnt uninstall FH5 (no idea why), making it work after this weird fiasco.

Seriously though they need to get this sorted out, had this problem a while ago and its the second time appearing, usually happens when I have to update the Xbox App from microsoft store. i think the xbox app is conflicting with the microsoft store in whose installing what update to which game.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out to help me. I tried to update my Windows 11, but it still doesnt work. For some reason it actually launched the other day, but then it went back to not being friends with me anymore. I have tried all there is to try. I have reset microsoft store, I have shut down my pc multiple times and I have reset the Xbox app too. I have even re-installed FH5, but yet again it does not want to play nice. I have also played FH5 since the release

I had the same issue with trying to open Forza Horizon 5 from game pass, would open the microsoft store to the "gaming services" page just to tell me it's already installed. Tried multiple reboots an reinstalling the xbox app. Tried the "repair" and "reset" buttons in the app settings for Forza Horizon 5 and after a reboot the xbox app won't even recognize the game is installed, asks me to install it again and then returns an error when I try (Error code: 0x00000001)
When I try to open the app settings for Forza Horizon 5 from the start menu now it just leads to the generic apps window and doesn't locate FH5 at all.

so like what I just have > 100gig of dead space on my SSD now? nice

edit: I updated windows and tried installing FH5 to a different drive, it downloaded like 100mb of data and then recognized the game and let me open it from my SSD again. weird but ok
