    Why does the XBox always forget the WiFi settings if you plug in an Ethernet cable for a while?


    I cannot understand why the XBox One and XBox One X both will pretend that the WiFi was never set up if you plug in an an Ehternet cable (and get an IP). Please fix.

    Doesnt happen to me either? What settings are you actually talking about a manual setting dns? Which isnt hard to put back in. What setting are you talking about that it forgets? You must be talking about the wifi password etc? Thats a security thing
    . But mine doesn't reset.

    This does not happen to me, I remove the cable and it is automatically connected to the wifi. All settings remain, customized IP and DNS.

    As long as you have your WIFI information saved in the system prior to hooking up am ethernet cable you should be fine. However, if you have had an ethernet cable hooked up for some month's and you have cleared your cache for memory, or had a system update,
    then your previously saved wifi information will be removed. It is not a priority to save passcode information on the system.

    I would love to know how you do it. MS support explicitly states that the WiFi settings are not rembered ( specifically the WiFi passphrase ) if you switch to Ehternet.

    Are you sure that when you plug it in the cable is live and you get an IP ( and not that it's still using WiFi)? Is your WiFi without a passphrase?

    I'd love to know what's different.

    Ah maybe that's why. If you put it in manually it may save it?
