Why does the USB port randomly disconnects?

I have a series x and I use a seagate external drive that connects with USB, also I play with a powerA wired controller, and the fact that I have to reconnect my controller mid game because it randomly stops working it’s really frustrating, I used to have the series s with the same external drive and controller and I wouldn’t have this issue, I recently played on my cousins series x which he had just replaced for a HDMI port problem, and while playing split screen my wired controller would stop working mid game, doesn’t matter which port I use because all 3 ports will fail at the same time. I hope in the future this gets fixed on the new xbox series x that come out to the market because I most likely will recall my xbox because this is a factory problem, I just read an article with the exact problem as me, which was published on 2020, hope this help whoever reads it.

Hello Jose, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the controller.

To ensure that this is a console problem I would like to recommend playing split screen on a different console doing all the same things you were doing before to see if it replicates.

I'd also like to mention that controllers disconnection from the console is a known issue with Xbox. When it happens again please report it as soon as your controller reconnects using the Report a Bug feature in the Xbox Insider App

It is randomly disconnecting and doesn't connect again and I have the latest update. And it is not wireless. cord. and I use the pc, not the Xbox.

This is most likely a software issue in Windows, and I would suggest using another USB port, one that is not on the same USB bus - for example, on the front of the computer or on the back, or using USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0.

If you have another controller to test this problem with that would be ideal, to see if the controller is malfunctioning. If this doesn't happen with another controller I would point towards the controller being the issue.

I would also suggest using another USB cable, as all Micro USB cables will work for this purpose.

Also, does this happen totally randomly or does it happen in a pattern, like when you do something specific?

And if this is a 3rd party controller I would suggest you contact their support as there may be a known issue with this.

I have tried plugging the controller into the USB 3.0 port as it was previously plugged into the USB 2.0 port. It still presents with some issues and the game randomly stops accepting inputs.

U have to download the update then use a USB, but it will then start to disconnect from live randomly

Something that I have found that helps is connecting a USB-C to the BACK port of the x-box and go into x-box accessories and update your controller, even if it doesn't need it.

I have been having the issue of the controller disconnecting and reconnecting randomly, even with the xbox button lit up like it is connected for a while now. And doing the above procedure has helped every time. Updating via usb-c on the front port does not seem to work for whatever reason. Using the back port works for me. I just had to do it again tonight. I don't like using a wired controller so if you want to do wireless try this.
