Keep in mind that when your friend redeems an Ultimate code while he have an active Gold subscription (currently referred to as Game Pass Core, but I will use "Gold" to avoid confusion), it will automatically convert to Ultimate at a 3:2 conversion rate. This means that for every 3 months of Gold, he will receive 2 months of Ultimate.

If you give him regular Game Pass for console, there will be no conversion, as Game Pass for console and Gold are treated as separate subscriptions, each with its own expiration date.

Additionally, consider the different benefits of the subscriptions. Game Pass Ultimate is more expensive because it includes more benefits.
