    Why does my old xbox gamertag switch back and forth with my new one


    Hi so I recently changed my gamer tag to a specialized character gamertag. The classic gamertag isn’t the problem, it’s my old one switching constantly with the new one where the new one is supposed to be. I’ve reset my account on my Xbox, power cycled my Xbox, cleared my cache, but it won’t permanently change. This even happens in parties when I join them, it keeps showing “IMakeMusic” and not my new one, but still new one shows upon going into my profile. I’ve waited 48 hours and gotten no answers. It even does it on Xbox app where it switches back and forth. PLEASE HELP!!!

    • Second, have you checked your Microsoft account settings to see if your gamertag is updated there?
    • Third, are you using any other devices or platforms that might be syncing with your Xbox account, such as Windows 10 PC or mobile phone?

    Meanwhile. you can try the following steps to troubleshoot:



    - Sign out of your Xbox account on all devices, including your console, PC, phone, or tablet.

    - Clear the cache on your console by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down, then unplugging it for 30 seconds.

    - Restart your console and sign in with your new gamertag.

    - Check if your gamertag is updated on other devices and online services, such as the Xbox app or Xbox.com

    Yes, the old xbox works just fine with the same network. We've switched back and forth between xboxes and the old one will connect but the new one has the MTU error between the network and the internet stage.

    His Gamertag and info will be removed from his old console and put on to the new one. It can be used on both but does have to be transfered back and forth. What I suggest is putting his gamertag onto a thumbstick drive and just plugging it into whatever
    console he wants to use. You do not have to buy a family pack.
