Why does my game audio sound bad when in a party?

I am saying that the game sound lowers when someone speaks in party chat, however it does not in game chat. I have to manually adjust the in-game audio options. Is this normal?

Ok, perhaps I didn't explain clearly. The game audio from my game, which sounds fine before I join chat, is rerouted somehow when I party up, and the quality of the game audio drops to sound *as bad as* someone else's TV coming through their mic into the chat - but it's still the audio from my game.

When I use my Xbox headset through the Xbox wireless adapter dongle everything is fine.

So the buds, which are essentially the same as my Xbox headset - some speakers and a mic - are unable to treat the game audio and the chat audio as separate and play them simultaneously without weirdly mashing them together into a horrible mess. There shouldn't be any "interference" in the game audio at all, the buds have to do is play it straight form the source, and they do - until I join a party. The game audio returns to normal if I leave the party. This would suggest that I don't have the Xbox chat app, bluetooth settings, mic settings, playback settings or all of them incorrectly configured, which is what I was initially hoping for some pointers on.

When I want to play Minecraft: Java Edition or Rocket Arena I cannot hear my party members, but as soon as I go back to another non-fullscreen program I can hear them. Why is this?

This could mean that your chat mixer is set fully set to game sound and not Party audio.
