Why does my controller disconnect when I plug my wired mic in?

One of the headsets we tried my husband is currently using and it's working great, **** it into my controller, it disconnects from the console. We've tried 2 different mic's. The regular single prong plud and port work fine but that requires me to use inline mute and volume which is very inconvenient while playing Halo

I understand you need help on your controller problem.

What type of controller do you have? And also, do you have another controller that you can try? Just to check if this is an issue of the controller or not.

Because if it is and you have already updated the controller, I would already suggest returning and having this replaced since you just bought the controller.

When ever I plug in my mic for the Xbox one my controller just disconnects and will not turn on again unless I unplug the mic.

Playing on PC...Xbox One wireless controller is connected and working. Wired headset/mic is plugged into the controller and I can hear the game and others clearly, but MY mic does not work and they cannot hear me.

For OP - My mic starts to work when I plug my controller into my PC via USB, just have to change some PC headset/mic settings. My problem though is I CANNOT keep my controller plugged into my computer since my computer is across the room from where I am
sitting. (and no, I'm not going to get a 20 ft cord to run across the room so people can hear me!)
