Why does it not install when I try to install a game from the game pass?

Thank you for sharing your concern here in Xbox Community Forum and we hope that all is well.

It appears that you are trying to install the game in your device and is unable to because the default drive where you can install new games and apps has not been established in your device. Let us check on this together and sort this out. Rest assured that we are going to perform some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue in a timely manner.

We would like to ask few questions to help us isolate the issue further.

1. What is the version of Windows you are using? To check, press Windows key + R and in run dialog box type winver and hit OK.

2. When did the issue start?

3. Has there been any changes with the device before this issue happen?

For the meantime, here are the troubleshooting steps worth trying for:

1. Make sure Windows is up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
  
• On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.
  
• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

2. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
  
• Select Library.
  
• Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
  

3. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

> To make sure your permissions for the game can be validated, be sure to sign in to both the Store and the Xbox app using the same account that was used to purchase the game.

4. Uninstall and reinstall Gaming Services

• Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  
• In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  
• Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  
• Restart your device and try to install the game again.
  

Additionally, to change the default drive where you can install the games and apps in your PC, follow the steps below:

1. First, open the PC Settings app by pressing the keyboard shortcut Win + I.
   
2. Go to the "System → Storage" page in the Settings app.
   
3. On the right page, click on the "Change where new content is saved" link under More Storage Settings section.
   
4. Under the "New apps will save to" option, select your target drive from the drop-down menu and click on the "Apply" button.
   
5. You may select the desired drive from the drop-down menu.
   
6. Go back to the Xbox App and try to select the drive and see if that worked.

Have you installed the Season Pass? Claiming the pass code isn't enough, there is a file which needs to be downloaded with it too.

Go to APPS & GAMES

Select Queue

Is the Season Pass in there waiting to be installed?

If not, go to Call of Duty in the Store

Select Season Pass from the addons

Does it say "Installed", "Install" or "Purchase"?

If it says Install then simply click it and download your Season Pass.

If it says Installed, try removing it by going to Manage Game when CoD is highlighted and delete the Season Pass. Then re-install and try running CoD again.

If it says Purchase, try redeeming your code again if you had one. If that fails, reach out to Xbox Support and see if they can explain why it is asking you to purchase the pass again.

For me iv installed the season pass and part 1 but when I load into the game on my Xbox and try and start up a single player game and a PC session it says the required dlc has not yet being installed. Does anyone have any answers for why it's not working.

This has allowed me to install Minecraft, although I am still unsure why I cannot install any games from the Microsoft Store, as when I try to it says 'To play games with your PC, we need to install some gaming components' and also comes up with Host Process for Windows asking whether I want to allow it to make changes to my device and when I accept and install it does what I said before and replies with 'something happened on our end'.

I would be disappointed if I cannot install any games I have from Game Pass Ultimate but I haven't seen anyone with the same problem as me.
