Why do some GAMES require a Hard Drive?

Can anyone shed some light on why some games require a hard drive to play? Also does anyone know why the game when it's packaged doesn't explicitly say REQUIRES HARD DRIVE to work properly?

Also to prevent this from happening to my grand son again which games require a hard drive to play so I do not purchase another one? Any help would be appreciated for this grammy.

XBox 360 game required hard drive issue

Some games do require an Xbox hard drive due to the system files on the drives. External hard drives will not work. They require an official MS Xbox 360 hard drive.

Some games out there require the xbox hard drive in order to work properly. Why not just buy the hard drive for it instead of something external.

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having. Certain games require a hard drive in order to play a system link or Xbox LIVE multiplayer games. If you are talking about playing Original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 then the official hard drive is required
because it contains the emulator software to play those games. Typically games will indicate storage needed for game saves but for example, Grand Theft Auto V states "8 GB required to play game". I'm not sure which game you are specifically referring to but

Battle Field Four and what in the world is a system link? What is the difference in a memory unit and a hard drive? Grammy is trying to learn about the world of Xbox and the insides of the box. Maybe I should start page Xbox for Grammas. ; )

 

System Link is the ability to play games between consoles over a local network without being connected to Live. To add to Elf's comment, many newer games (such as Battlefield 3/4, GTA V, and Halo 4) have portions of the game which use the hard drive to increase
performance, as the hard drive loads faster than the DVD drive. Games that require a hard drive specifically state it on the back of the box in the checklist of features.

 

I was surprised myself to see that when I bought a newer game (Call of Duty Ghosts), that I could not play the main part of the game (Called the Campaign) without installing a second disc that came with the game. The good news is that most games that came
out before late 2013 do not require you to install the game on an Xbox 360 hard drive. Currently there are only a few games that do. Major retailers and Video Game stores sell a different variety of Xbox 360 hard drives, at different capacities, and different
prices. It would be a wise investment to get him one!
