Why do my downloads get stuck in looking for updates?

I was trying to load a game, Chinatown Detective Agency, and it just stalls while downloading. The screen reads "Checking for updates" indefinitely. I've chatted with Xbox support and Windows support, to no avail. I cancelled my subscription, since there seems to be no resolution to this problem.

Downloading updates play an important role for the specific application to run smoothly. For the games to run smoothly in Xbox app, the gaming services app is updated regularly for the game to run efficiently. Games have often new updates released by the game developer to roll out fixes of some bugs and other known issue. When there is an issue in installing updates, restarting the device or cancelling and reinstalling the updates might help fix the issue.

go settings, network and set to offline mode, then install the disc, once done go online then download the updates, looks like its getting stuck installing updates when installing the game.

Try updating your xbox with a wired connection as you normally get a better internet connection when you do this. I updated mine with a wireless connection but for some strange reason after the update my xbox console doesn't look any different to what
it did before the update, so I don't know if the same will happen to you. When you say it won't update do you mean it is stuck on a particular part of the installation screen or won't download at all?
