    why do I have to link my Skype account with my MS account?


    I have an existing Skype account that has all my contacts connected that I created before Skype merged with Microsoft. When I try to sign into the Skype app on Xbox One it says that it is time to link or merge my Skype account with the Microsoft account
    that I use with Xbox One. I don't want to link those accounts however since I use a separate Microsoft account for email that I would rather have linked to my Skype account. Why can't I sign in without linking accounts?

    Xbox Live and Skype account mixup

    When I made my Xbox Live account, my mum's Microsoft account was used. When I made my Skype account, I linked my Microsoft account. I see that you cannot unlink Microsoft accounts from Skype accounts. If it is because Microsoft doesn't want Skype and Microsoft
    to be separate, I'm just unlinking my Xbox Live account from that Skype account to link to my Skype account which I also want to unlink. Would it be possible for Microsoft to do this?

    It sounds like there's some kind of confusion between Skype accounts and Microsoft accounts. Sign in to Skype on the web with to unlink your accounts, and then you can re-launch Skype on Xbox One to link the Skype account you want to the Microsoft account
    that you use on your Xbox.

    Skype

    Signing into Skype uses the Microsoft Account of the active user. If your Skype account is already linked to that Microsoft Account, it just uses that, if not you can link it to a Skype account that you have.

    So, for a family member that has a Microsoft Account on the console, but has not yet linked it to a Skype account, they should follow the flow to use an existing Skype account or create a new one.

    You can unlink the Microsoft Account that is linked to a Skype Account as described here:

    Already did with no luck. I will try again, but my skype isn't linked to this account and I paid for things on the MS store using Paypal
