Why did my controller stop working

Hey,

take out the batteries and try it only with the USB cable.

If it works go to the setting and check if there is an update available for the controller (the 3 dots under the controller picture).

If it doesn't work could you try to the test the controller with a PC or a different console ?

To find out if it's a controller or a console issue.

I see, could be an issue with the latest firmware update.
We can try to downgrade it in a different way, for this you need a Windows PC.

Or this other method:
Connect the controller via USB then open Xbox Accessories App
Once there press Windows key + R and paste the next command in the box:

xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true

Hit Enter and now Xbox Accessories App will prompt a message and the firmware downgrade process is going to start

It did not allow me to downgrade. It wasn’t really dirty but I tried cleaning it out anyways, it didn’t seem to help. I have a 3rd controller btw, though I don’t use it much because of the drift. I also tried the 3rd and it did not have the mic problem.

That's really odd, and yes. Maybe the problem is caused by the controller.

May I know if you tried downgrading the controller firmware to see if maybe that helps?

And, do you not have access to a third controller?
In the meantime, try cleaning carefully the headphone jack in your controller and in the headset.

• I have tried a different headset with my two controllers and it was the same
  
• I have tried on my two different controllers and on two different xboxs
  

This has never happened to me before and I am very confused. It was weird how one controller stopped working with my mic, and when I swapped over to my second controller, it too stopped working with my mic two weeks after the first controller. With trying out my controllers on another xbox, it leads me to believe that it is not specifically a xbox console problem and has something to do with my controllers.
