Did you definitely get charged in May? Pre-orders will only charge your payment method 10 days prior to the release date of the product (although I believe it charges you staright away if using your Microsoft balance as the payment method). Have you double checked your credit/debit card statement to confirm?

What country do you live in? The standard rate for Xbox Live Gold is $59.99USD/year. Here in Canada it's $69.99CAD.
