If your settings are setup correctly and you're still getting an error it means that you don't have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription which is required to play a paid online multiplayer game.

To check, please follow the steps below:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, and then select System > Settings > Account > Subscriptions.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you are having this issue where you can't play with your friends. You mentioned that this issue happens whenever there are mods? Kindly confirm if you can connect to your friend if there are no mods installed.

Please make sure that you and your friends' Minecraft versions are the same. Once confirmed that the versions are identical, log out from your account, close Minecraft then log back in. These steps usually work for most of these types of issues.



If the initial steps did not work, delete and re-add your friend from your friend's list. Let me know how it goes.
