why can't i sign into my account?

every time i try to log into my account, i get the error "we can't sign you in, an illegal state change was requested" and i have no idea why or what that means. the only thing i've changed about my account recently is my password. i tried to contact xbox support about the issue but all i got was unrelated articles on unrelated issues and told phone calls and chats arent available for account issues. all i want to do is play games with the game pass i payed for, but i can't even sign into my account and it's really frustrating because it feels like a waste of money at this point. can someone please help?
