Why cant I link the accounts?

I just created a new xbox account and new epic games account about an hour ago. I have a fortnite gift card that I'm trying to redeem but I need to select xbox under the select what you play on option but I must link my xbox and epic accounts. However when I try to do that it let's me get to the part where I put in the username and password for Microsoft but the it says they had a trouble linking credentials or something like that. I have redone this several times and it won't let me link them. How do I fix this?

I am sorry to hear that.

You need to link your Microsoft Account (the one you use on the console) to your Epic account.

You can do it here:

Please, enter Epic website: epicgames.com/account/connected

Go to Your Name > Account > Connections > Accounts

Select your Microsoft Account to link it.

If you still can't, you will need to open a support ticket with Epic support.

Have you linked your xbox gamertag to your EA/Origin account??

If not then thats why you cant log in..It doesnt recognise your xbox account on Origin.

I had created my xbox account WeakElf8947534 when I was 15 on my xbox 360, and I didn't have a Microsoft account yet, so my sister said i could use her Microsoft account. But when i had got my own account setup she asked me if I could transfer the xbox account to my new Microsoft account, so logged into the account a couple of diffrent times to try and see if i could change the account linked to it with but with no avail. So i had just recently remembed about it and I looked it up on Google and I found something that said I couldn't change the Microsoft account linked to it but I thought I'd ask just to be sure thanks anyway for the help you could give me though. From what I understand you cannot change Microsoft accounts completely, but you can change the email address of that account if that is helpful to you can take a look at the following link:
