    Why can't I launch games from the Xbox app?


    Whenever I try to launch a game from the Xbox app, the game loads for a couple of seconds and then closes. I've already tried restarting my PC. I got this file system error on my screen: (-2147416386). It was working just fine last night but when I tried to open Sea of Thieves I got that issue so I tried it with another game and the same thing happened. I did install some updates last night after playing so that may have something to do with it but I don't know what to do.

    Are you using a Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine?
    And to confirm, did you install a Windows updates then after it the issue persisted?

    For the basic troubleshooting steps, try to reset/repair your Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.

    I ran it from the start menu as an administrator and it launched. I don't know why it doesn't launch from the xbox beta app though.

    Store app claims I need to join Game Pass, but Microsoft Support says I still have 6 weeks of Game Pass Ultimate.

    Previously, the game I want to play (Slay the Spire) would only launch from XBox(Beta) app.

    But now the XBox app is broken, I can't search for the game. It appears to serve no other purpose at the moment then displaying the games that are available on game pass.

    So after a new Windows installation you still can't play the game, have you tried launching the game from the main menu and not from the Xbox app?

    It seems that I can't launch it from the Dashboard, but that it will launch fine if I open it from my Recent games/apps.
