Why can’t I get my Ethernet cable to connect but the wireless connection is totally fine?

Additional information is needed, please answer the following questions to assist you properly:

What Xbox console do you have?
Is this the first time that you try to connect an Ethernet cable or previously you was able to do that?
Did you tried connecting the cable to a different port in your router?
Or if possible, how it goes if you use a brand new / different Ethernet cable?

The ethernet cable is fine I would assume, as I used a wired connection with my Slim and it connected just fine. But it won't connect with the old xbox. I figured it was as you suggested early, being the actual port on the old xbox that is faulty. I think
you are correct in that. That's why I asked about a wireless adaptor as oppose to sending it to microsoft to get the port fixed.

Wireless is working fine. However I get signal drop in my area which is why I paid for a phone line to be connected to my room. I have tried an alternate, new ethernet cable and it was worse, it would barely let me connect at all; I even got very frequent
error messages. If I look at available networks on the xbox when the ethernet cable is in the wired box will keep un-ticking and re-ticking constantly. When un-ticked it will give me an xbox message stating to connect an ethernet to use wired; as if there
were no cable at all. I'm starting to think that the console has a faulty ethernet port.

I'm having the same problem,,will not let me connect internet works fine and if I plug in ethernet cable it works but refuses to connect to wireless????????

I moved my xbox closer to my router so I could plug it in. It seems to be working fine plugged in with the Ethernet cable.

There also does not seem to be anything wireless in range of the router or xbox that might be interrupting signal, and my one pc that connects wireless, always has a fine connection.
