    Why can't I change my Xbox LIVE Gamertag once for free?


    So I made a new account for xbox One a few months ago and got a pre-made gamertag given to me by Xbox. It said I am allowed to change it once for free whenever I want to, so today I felt a change was needed since isn't the most personable
    GT out there. So I tried it out but it said I had to pay the usual fee for changing your GT, even though I have never done it on this profile yet and SHOULD have a free try still.

    Can someone help me with this please? I have no idea what to do!

    Why do Xbox only let you change your gamertag once for free?? Why can't we change our gamertag for free when we renew our xbox live... because in theory we can create a new xbox live account but then we lose our gamerscore.

    I ended up downloading my old profiles, but it wants me to pay 800 points to change that name. According to xbox policies I should be able to change my xbox gamertag once free of charge - "If you created your gamertag when you signed up for Xbox LIVE, you

    Is there something preventing this name change for free, and will the old gamertag definitely be free'd up once I change it so I can change my current name "FUBAR PhD" to tptass?

    You can easily change your Xbox Live gamertag. If your gamertag was created for you during your initial Xbox Live sign-up (meaning, you did not choose your gamertag), you can change the gamertag once for free. Additional Xbox Live gamertag changes cost extra

    Hello SovietSteropes, i am guessing your account at first was not connected to Xbox live, it was an offline account? You then signed up to Xbox Live?

    Normally when you sign up to Xbox live, your gamertag automatically changes but you are allowed to change your gamertag at least once for free. Once you have used the free gamertag change then you would have to pay.

    If you haven't already used your free gamertag change, then i suggest you use that if it solves your problem. ;)

    Yep cause this isn't misleading at all; considering I have never changed my gamertag in 9 years of having xbox live. I understand that when you sign up they let you make it whatever you want, but that is before you have ever been connected to xbox live gold
    before. Its not like they're really giving it to you for free, you're just allowed to change it once you've signed up for gold. Yes I did know this already, and yes I'm an idiot for thinking that a free change would apply to me, but I was mislead by them saying
    "change it once for free". I thought since I recently bought an Xbox One, maybe the free change was applied to me, but I don't know why I thought that.
