    Why Can't I Change Email for Xbox Gamertag and keep my progress?


    I've been using the same email (gmail account) for my xbox profile since I was 12, and now I want to update it to the one I use currently (outlook account). I tried to follow the steps from the support document at https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-profile/manage-account/change-email-sign-in-for-microsoft-account,
    but that won't work. I keep getting the error message stating that email is already in use, please try another. I've talked to 4 different Microsoft/Xbox support specialists, and they either don't know how to help me, or tell me that I'll lose all of my progress/stats/games/subscriptions/etc
    associated with my Xbox profile because everything is tied to that specific email address, and I simply cannot understand why that is.

    I can't believe I'm the only person that has ever tried to change their Xbox email from their childish one from youth, to one they use more frequently as an adult. What if I forgot my password and don't have access to the recovery options (old cellphone/email)
    anymore? What if that email got hacked? There should be a way for me to either link my two different emails together where I don't have to lose my xbox progress and not have to change my personal email use (I was also told by microsoft support that accounts
    cannot be linked), or a simple process for converting my Xbox profile to the new email address.

    If this issue is not a purposeful one by Microsoft, hopefully it gets addressed. If it is a purposeful one, at the very least, the microsoft support personnel should be aware of the reason and be able to explain to me why, as well as my alternative options,
    instead of passing me around to different people who don't know how to help me.

    Account Profiles

    You can't transfer Xbox accounts to another Microsoft account (this is what you want). It's not possible.

    You CAN change the login email but you CAN'T change it to an Outlook or Hotmail or Live email since those are Microsoft emails.

    Your son will have to either keep this account he's on or start fresh on a new account. He can keep his games and most DLC by using the

    I have signed in as that email. It said I was Tripod. I have the information to change the gamertag from one WLID to another, but I can't because I keep getting the status codes "80154002" and "8015D000". That is why we are here.

    I'm not entirely sure since I've never done it myself, but I don't see why you would lose any progress. It's just changing the email associated with the Gamertag, not starting a new account, so I'm assuming it would keep the same saves in the cloud.

    Hopefully someone else can confirm though.

    If you change the GamerTag as explained here https://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/change-xbox-live-gamertag,
    you keep all progress and purchases ;)

    After that, you can change the profile privacy and manage the parental control settings.

    Can I use my steam account linked to my hacked Microsoft account as proof of ownership?

    I already tried the recovery form. Unfortunately, they changed the email account connected to my Xbox account so I can't progress on the recovery form.
