Why can’t I add my email as an Alias

Please choose a different alias or you may just include some numbers to it.

An alias is an additional email address associated with your Outlook.com account.

An alias uses the same inbox, contact list, and account settings as your primary email address. You can sign in to your Outlook.com account with any alias—they all use the same password.

To add an alias, follow these steps:

Sign in to your Microsoft account, if prompted.

Under Add an alias, do one of the following:

Create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias.

Add an existing email address as an alias.

Hi, yes. You can’t add existing outlook ID as an alias
Because they’re already linked to a Microsoft account

Where it says “add email”

t should let you add an alias if your email was already verified, if not, it will ask you to verify the email address that's currently listed first.

Once you add your alias, if its a 3rd party email (gmail, yahoo, etc) then click verify.

When I add the alias email I want to, it says that the alias email is already in use. My alias email is gmail and is already a live account (I use it for my Windows Phone and for OneDrive). I'm stucked, once again

Im trying to add my son’s email ending in @hotmail.com to his Xbox. Previously it was mine ending @hotmail.com.

I’ve gone to add his email address as an alias then remove mine.

Firstly, it won’t allow me to because it says “this email is part of a reserved domain” and secondly if I remove my email from his Xbox account that’s not going to stop access to my personal Microsoft account is it?

It won't let you add an already existing Microsoft email as the primary alias. Thats normal and there isnt any way around that.

If you remove your email from the xbox account then YES it WILL stop your access to it forever.

Hello Ben, from what I understand you use your mother's email account to play correct?

If that's it, and you have all the games purchased in that account, and the progress too, what you can do is a change of "Alias, you will change the account email and the email you create will become the main "Alias" to access the account and play.

According to the same link you posted if he does this then his mothers microsoft account will be deleted forever which is what the OP wanted to not have happen:
