    Why Can’t Change my Xbox Gamertag for Free?


    So i wanted to change my Xbox Gamertag and i looked it up and many people are saying i can Change it for Free for the First time, i never Changed my Gamertag since i Created the Account but it still Cost me Money to change it for some Reason.

    Free change no longer exists if you picked your own gamertag. It used to be you got one free regardless now you only get a free change if you were randomly renerated your gamer tag

    The free change is only given if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that for the first time. If you chose your tag when you created your account, that was your free change.

    Does Xbox generate a gamertag when you create your account?

    I just don't understand why I was able before to create an Xbox account and choose freely my gamertag and still have the free name change available.
    If everyone is supposed to get a generated Xbox account ID, why was I able before to create a Xbox account and create my own gamertag and still have the free name change available?
