Why can I not log into xbox account?

When restarting my Xbox because of a Minecraft update being messed up, all of the profiles were removed as such. However when trying to add back one of the accounts (GrandpaEazy69) I put in the correct gmail—which has emails showing its the correct account—but I forgot the password. After doing the password reset I tried to log into the account but it instead created a new account (Copper User) without warning. Now it only redirects me to this new account. How do I fix this?

Is it showing that you're logged in to Xbox at the top? If it isn't, that's why your games aren't saving. You need to log in to Xbox with your Microsoft account so your games can save in the cloud automatically.

They have the same account names n everything, I feel like a ****, but seriously why isn't it on my main Microsoft account and why can I log into a different account with a Gmail email?
