why can i not hear my friends when i am in a party but i can hear game noises ?

    Hello Simon White1,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the description, you are unable to hear your friends during party chat however your friends can hear you and able to hear game sound as well. Let us check and see on what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

It is possible that your microphone is muted or your online safety and privacy settings to communicate to everyone is not set to allow. Let us check some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

    1. Check Your Privacy Settings: Make sure your privacy settings allow communication with everyone.

    • Press the Xbox button to open the guide and select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy. Select View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer, and then make your changes.
    2. Unmute or unblock the person you’re trying to chat with. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Parties & chats. Select the party to expand the party roster, choose the person you want to unmute, and select Unmute.

    3. Check the party chat volume for each person in your party. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Parties & chats. Select the party to expand the party roster, choose the person you want to check, and then verify that their volume slider is at a level that you can hear. To change the volume level, move left or right using the D-pad or the left stick to adjust the volume slider.

    4. Check that you have joined party chat from within the party window.

    5. Check to make sure you’re not in a Discord voice channel. If you are, it’ll say “Discord” and the name of the channel. If you’re in a Discord voice channel, go to the following page for troubleshooting suggestions: How to use Discord with Xbox

    6. Check to see if the party member who is unable to be heard has Noise Suppression enabled on their settings. To toggle this on and off:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide and select Parties & chats.
    2. Highlight the party listed and then press the A button > Options.
    3. Turn Noise Suppression on and off.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

I can't hear sounds but I can hear my party and they can hear me.

Found out it was the headphone adapter that connected the sound and microphone together, thanks for the recommendation!

    Hi John Patrick Harris

I do understand the urgency of you wanting to find other ways for this issue of yours in regards with your audio. We are very glad to help you out to find some of the best possible options and troubleshooting's that we can provide for you.

Firstly, let's check if the issue is with the headset or the controller. Please try using a different headset or controller to see if the issue persists. If the issue is with the headset, please ensure that it is properly connected to the controller and that the volume is turned up.

If the issue persists, please try the following steps:

    1. Check the audio settings on your Xbox.

    • Go to Settings > Display & Sound > Volume and make sure that the volume is turned up.
    2. Check the audio settings in the game you are playing.

    • Some games have their own audio settings that may need to be adjusted.
    3. Try resetting your Xbox audio settings to default.

    • Go to Settings > Display & Sound > Audio Output and select "Reset to Factory Defaults".
    4. Check if there are any updates available for your Xbox.

    • Go to Settings > System > Updates & Downloads and check for any available updates.
    5. If none of the above steps work, try performing a power cycle on your Xbox.

    • To do this, turn off your Xbox and unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.

In addition, you can as well utilize this support article for more information's and as well as guidance as well on finding other options. click here: Troubleshoot audio on your Xbox console
